Shigeaki Kubo (久保茂昭) is a Japanese film and music video director renowned for his dynamic visual storytelling and impactful contributions to contemporary Japanese pop culture.
Born on September 25, 1973, in Tokyo, Japan, Kubo developed an early interest in visual media, frequently visiting production sites for promotional videos and commercials during his school years. This passion led him to study under director Eiki Takahashi. After graduating from Nihon University's College of Art in 1997, he joined the film production company Krampus and transitioned to freelance directing in 2002.
Kubo has directed over 500 music videos for prominent Japanese artists, including EXILE, Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi, Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS, and E-girls. His work has garnered multiple accolades, such as the MTV Video Music Awards Japan's Best Video of the Year for five consecutive years.
In film, Kubo is best known for directing the "HiGH & LOW" franchise, a groundbreaking multimedia project that blends action, music, and drama. The series includes titles like "HiGH & LOW THE MOVIE" (2016), "HiGH & LOW THE MOVIE 2 / END OF SKY" (2017), "HiGH & LOW THE MOVIE 3 / FINAL MISSION" (2017), and "HiGH & LOW THE WORST" (2019).
