Yugo Sakamoto (阪元 裕吾, Sakamoto Yūgo) is a Japanese film director born on January 18, 1996, in Osaka (or Kyoto, according to some sources).
Sakamoto gained recognition early in his career. While a student at Kyoto University of Art and Design, he won the 2016 Grand Prix at the Cruel Student Film Festival, earning the title of “Promising New Director.” His commercial filmmaking debut came with Family☆Wars.
His films are noted for their energetic blend of action and violence, often infused with stylistic influences from manga and anime. Among his works are Baby Assassins, Yellow Dragon’s Village, and Nemuru Baka.
Sakamoto describes his filmmaking philosophy as “Weekly Shōnen Jump, not Hollywood,” emphasizing dynamic pacing and a youthful, bold spirit in his storytelling.
